experiencing the world heritage

You can book guided tours of the water features and the World Heritage site of Wilhelmshöhe Park with Museumslandschaft Hessen Kassel and at Kassel Marketing.

Tours are offered for days without water displays as well - a visit to Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe is a memorable experience even when the water displays are not in operation. Visitors have an opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of the technology used, or to discover the park's numerous buildings instead. Tours devised specifically for families allow children to learn more about the history of the water displays.

Further information is available from our Visitor Services under the number 0561 316 80-123,

From the Hercules Monument, where our water engineer will open the first valve at 14:30, we will follow the water downhill past the imposing water sceneries, all the way to the Great Fountain, which will rise at 15:45 to the cheers of visitors, leaping to a height of more than 50 metres.

Hidden places in the Bergpark

With its various sceneries in the style of an English landscape garden, Wilhelmshöhe Park is an ideal place to go exploring. We will be visiting the more out-of-the-way stretches of this unique work of landscaping art, looking at places like the Cestius Pyramid or Vergil's Tomb and opening doors that are usually kept locked. We are going to find out how the Temple of Friendship or the Hermitage of Socrates look like from the inside, and how places like these were used by the noble visitors of a bygone era.

1 May to 3 October: every second Saturday in the month • 11:00–12:30 • Tickets 4,50 Euro (children 3 Euro) • Meeting point: Ticket desk, Wilhelmshöhe Palace

Afterwards we are going to trace the course of the pipelines, some of them 300 years old, and learn more about the water catchment area and the individual features of the water displays.

Bergpark Explorers tour

Just how strongly does the water flow, and can it be tamed? What was the Baroque way of showing off? Who built a Roman aqueduct and a medieval castle in the wrong century? And why is it a Romantic park but an English garden? Find out in the course of a spectacular »cross-country« tour past magnificent buildings, and discover things you never knew before! We'll take a fresh look at the natural world, seek out hidden things, and capture our favourite Bergpark motif to treasure and take home.
