Wilhelmsthal (Calden) Park and Palace

The palace and park of Wilhelmsthal at Calden (c. 12 km from the ICE station of Kassel Wilhelmshöhe) are open to visitors.

– by car

From the direction of the city centre, follow Wilhelmshöher Allee towards Wilhelmshöhe Palace and past it. Turn left into Rasenallee and follow the signs for »Schloss und Schlosspark Wilhelmsthal (Calden)«. Visitor parking is provided.

– by public transport (ÖPNV)

The palace of Wilhelmsthal is easy to reach by bus (Linie 47 of Nordhessischer Verkehrsverbund): get off at »Calden-Wilhelmsthal«. This bus shares a stop with the Line 1 tram (»Vellmar-Nord«) and also calls at the railway stations of Espenau-Mönchenau (served by two local train lines, Regiotram 1 and Regionalexpress Kassel - Hofgeismar) and Calden-Fürstenwald (served by Regiotram 4 Kassel Hbf - Wolfhagen).

Friedrichstein Palace (Bad Wildungen)

The Museum Schloss Friedrichstein is situated about 45 km south of Kassel at Bad Wildungen, in the Altwildungen neighbourhood to the north of the town centre.

– by car

Arriving from the direction of Kassel on the A49 towards Marburg/Baunatal/Dortmund/Niederzwehren, take the exit for Fritzlar (14) towards Fritzlar/Edersee and follow the signs for Korbach/Waldeck/Bad Wildungen right up to the palace. Visitor parking is provided.

– by public transport ÖPNV

Trains run daily (except Sundays) from Kassel Main Station via the ICE stop of Wilhelmshöhe to Bad Wildungen (R39, Kassel-Naumburger-Eisenbahn, KNE, travel time approx. 45 min). From the station, take a Line 1 city bus to »Treffpunkt Kurschatten« and switch to Line 2A or B, destination »Altwildungen«, getting off at »Schulplatz/Schloss«; from there it is a few minutes' walk along Schlosstraße. Walking from Bad Wildungen station to the museum will take approximately half an hour.

Museum of Hessian History (Hessiches Landesmuseum)

Hessisches Landesmuseum is situated on Brüder-Grimm-Platz very close to the city centre.

– by car

If you are arriving by car, we recommend taking the exit for Kassel-Auestadion (5) from the A49 and continuing on the B3 (Frankfurter Straße). Turn left into Fünffensterstraße and almost immediately left again, into Wilhelmshöher Allee. The museum is on the left-hand side. Some street parking is available in the vicinity.

– by public transport (ÖPNV)

From the ICE station of Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe, take a Line 1, 3 or 4 tram to the city centre, getting off at »Rathaus« (i. e. the town hall). From there, it is a five-minute walk from the town hall along Fünffensterstraße towards Wilhelmshöher Allee. From Kassel Main Station, take the Line  RT 1, 4 or 5 tram (destination »Holländische Straße/Auestadion«), getting off at »Rathaus/Fünffensterstraße« and proceed as described above.

New Gallery

Neue Galerie is situated on Schöne Aussicht, No. 1, between the city centre and the park of Karlsaue.

If you are arriving by car, we recommend taking the exit for Kassel-Auestadion (5) from the A49 and continuing on the B3 (Frankfurter Straße). Just before and after you pass Fünffensterstraße on your left, several side streets on your right lead down to Schöne Aussicht. Visitor parking is available next to the museum

– by public transport

From the ICE station of Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe, take a Line 1, 3 or 4 tram to the city centre, getting off at »Rathaus« (i. e. the town hall). From there, it is a ten-minute walk from the town hall along Fünffensterstraße and across Frankfurter Straße, which runs parallel to Schöne Aussicht.
From Kassel Main Station, take the Line RT 1, 4 or 5 tram (destination »Holländische Straße/Ausestadion«), getting off at »Rathaus/Fünffensterstraße«.

Siebenbergen Isle

The Island of Siebenbergen is situated in Staatspark Karlsaue, on Auedamm 58.

– by car

If you are arriving by car, we recommend taking the exit for Kassel-Auestadion (5) from the A49 and switching onto the B3 towards the city centre. Soon after, turn right into Damaschkestraße. After just a few hundred metres, leave the right-turning priority road, heading straight on into Auedamm. The Island of Siebenbergen will be on your left. There is sufficient visitor parking.

Arriving from the direction of the city centre: Travelling along Steinweg (B3), turn left into Du Ry-Straße within sight of the theatre (Staatstheater/Schauspielhaus, ahead on your left). Continue into Auedamm and follow it along the park (Staatspark Karlsaue) to the southern end where the island is situated.

– by public transport (ÖPNV)

Line 12 (bus stop »Damaschkebrücke«) and 16 buses will take you to the Island of Siebenbergen.

Karlsaue Park - Orangery - Cabinet of Astronomy and Physics - Planetarium - Marble Bathhouse

The Collection of Astronomy and Physics (Astronomisch-Physikalisches Kabinett) and the Planetarium are housed in the Orangery, An der Karlsaue 20c, situated between the  Hessenkampfbahn stadium to the north and the Karlswiese lawn.

If you are arriving by car, we recommend taking the exit for Kassel-Auestadion (5) from the A49 and continuing on the B3 (Frankfurter Straße). Once past the Museum of Natural History (Naturkundemuseum Ottoneum), turn right into Du-Ry-Straße. Visitor parking is available next to the Orangery.

– by public transport (ÖPNV)

From the ICE station of Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe, take a Line 1, 3 or 4 tram to the city centre, getting off at »Friedrichsplatz«. From Kassel Main Station, it is a five-minute walk along Treppenstraße to »Friedrichsplatz«.

From Friedrichsplatz, continue past the Neo-Classical Museum Fridericianum towards the Staatstheater, then past the documenta exhibition hall and down the steps of Gustav-Mahler-Treppe to Karlsaue.
